Therapy

Seeking help can be understandably challenging. People come to therapy with a range of life challenges that include relationship concerns, trauma, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and questions about academic and career goals.

Services provided by Dr. Clauss-Ehlers that address these concerns include individual, couples, and family therapy. Clients Dr. Clauss-Ehlers has worked with range in age from childhood through adulthood and reflect diverse backgrounds and experiences. Services are also provided in Spanish.

Therapeutic Approach

Dr. Clauss-Ehlers’ approach to therapy is supportive, empathic, and collaborative. With more than 20 years of experience as a New York State licensed psychologist, she’s learned it’s not uncommon for people to share they’re not completely sure what the issue is when they first come in for therapy. They know they don’t feel great and want something different, but aren’t necessarily sure what that looks like. Therapeutic work seeks to support a process of exploration and understanding.

Theoretical Orientation

Dr. Clauss-Ehlers takes a psychodynamic and systemic approach to psychotherapy. The psychodynamic aspect explores root causes of issues, reflecting back to see how earlier relationships might influence current relationship dynamics. From a systemic perspective, exploration considers how larger systems such as the family system or cultural context have an impact on feelings and experiences. Throughout, therapy takes a strength-based approach. The strength-based approach works to support clients in building resilience and coping skills so that they feel empowered to face challenges.

Cost

The cost for treatment can vary depending upon the services you are interested in. Many clients pay without using insurance. Other clients contact their insurance company to see if they have out-of-network coverage for outpatient therapy. Dr. Clauss-Ehlers does not bill any insurance companies directly. She is happy to complete any forms that clients need so that they can submit them to their insurance company for reimbursement.
